What Has Changed Recently?
In his recent State of the Union Address, President Bush laid out a clear vision for making health care more affordable and more available. The free market should be the engine to drive these changes whenever feasible. In the process of developing out a new strategy that will enable uninsured Americans to better afford health insurance the new strategies being discussed become a solid starting point for long overdue action on this critical problem. You know that when The President himself is talking about this issue there is very aggressive lobbying going on in the background from the health care insurance industry, just to mention one industry sector that would be impacted from any reshuffling of priorities.

The Health Insurance Association of America (HIAA - a non-profit proactive information and lobbying body) has been aggressively working, both in the public and private sectors, to inform, educate and affect changes with the current health care insurance industry. There are simply too many Americans without coverage. HIAA is hoping that the President's vision reaches out to include those who purchase long term care insurance, which would help to shore up the financial security of American families today. Plus if long term care insurance is addressed properly the process will ease the burden the states are experiencing because of the continued rising cost up-trends with Medicad.

One key factor that affects so many individuals is the rising cost of prescription drugs. By modernizing and strengthening Medicare, older Americans will face a more stabilized prescription drug cost scenario. A very delicate process, indeed, to reshape any part of Medicare as so many millions of older Americans depend on this vital service. The process will have to work hard to maintain aspects of the program that is currently serving the needs with the adjustments integrated carefully and with very close monitoring.
